Nolan is not a visual director. He lacks the skill to make full uae of the medium. His scenes are full of expository that have to remind the audience what the plot is because it's poorly written.

Yes his movies look cool. But he takes an interesting idea and beats it to death because he spent a fortune making that sh1t movie and he needs a majority of the audience to get what he's trying to do

If he gives up big budget movies, he'll probably be a better director. But at the moment I find his movies boring and annoying and full.of tricks that I don't find interesting because he shows his.hand too early and too often and in the end the act becomes about the trick and lacks the magic

I think Nolan is hiding what a crap director he is by making big budget movies.

Spielberg even if crap, can create wonderful drama and spectacle. I cant forget my first experience wih Jurassic Park as a kid in the theatre. Nolan lacks even that skill.

He created some image/style for himself..for that kind of movies...

as you mentioned...he takes simple idea and beaten to death....but thats his unique ness...there are so many directors who can make movie like everyone can make...but not like him...

in fact “the dark knight raises “ ...he didnt apply much of his brain ...and made that movie very flat...like everyone can understand....finally the same people who understand easily said...”what so special in that”...

the dark knight itself is flat and strays too much from the myth of batman. What's the idea in 'the dark knight'? that one can torch a village to find one bad person. and in compensation for all torchings, you give people an idea to hold on to. thats it.

this is like infantalizing batman. dumbing him down to the bones. Batman in the comics is well aware that he's part of the problem of Gotham. actually he is the problem. His wealth is the biggest problem with Gotham. and Nolan never explores that angle, instead setting a simple story of a rich vigilante who's sad only because he is afraid for the people he cares about. Never questions his own role and his father's role in making Gotham what it is today.

anyway Nolan is too popular. but I really don't understand why. his movies really suck.

The guy who wrote batman - Alan Moore (the version which the dark knight is based on), is a straight up anarchist.

Nolan completely made batman a conservative icon. it was pathetic.

the other popular movie based on Alan Moore's comics is V for Vendetta. The writer is anti state.

so Nolan takes both the fun out of movies, and any deep philosophical significance to the plot.

he's like the maniratnam of Hollywood. except maniratnam actually doesn't make movies where people constantly look into the camera with a sense of purpose.. and uses very less dialogues in his films.

Interstellar, the only thing I remember about the movie is her daughter getting her father's msg and the explanation of how that happened.

and Inception was even worse. The only thing I remember about the movie is the girl jumping off the balcony.

I was that bored.

But i loved Dunkirk.

In defense of Nolan, the ideas that he wants to develop into movies are not regular summer blockbuster type ideas. and no one has yet found the language to communicate these ideas to layperson on the screen.

Nolan is trying. and failing.

but kudos that he's trying. but to call him a genius is laughable.

For example, there's little australian film "Other Life" that explored people stuck between reality and illusion way better than Inception did.

that is, if you think Inception did anything beyond that convoluted story about planting memories through sleep induced realities. The plot in inception was a joke. an interesting idea ground to dust and made into an action movie by Nolan.
