They are not in the process of creating tools to take advantage of the digital infra to move the needle towards their goals. They have their reasons. Mostly they don't want to restrict their movement to just geeks and nerds by making it completely about tech. So i guess digital communism is not something that is even on the menu. communists would want it, but they don't want to invest their time on it. so not happening. corporate controlled social media is aata lo aratipandu. They are just useful tools for the govt to improve mass surveillance. ofcourse some of them may die, some may thrive, its just part of business cycle, but they are happy to play second fiddle to the govt. What i see is a partial police state in large parts of the world. With top 10-15% shielded from it, but only because they agree to play ball. Do you remember the site Gab? it existed way before mastodon, but changed its code to take advantage of mastodon's federated structure and soon mastodon users had to contend with a huge right wing network that constantly belittled them. its the same story as of the internet. initial days of commercial internet was completely dominated by leftists.. little communities that shared ideas and show off fun products. But eventually it was fascists that mastered the medium. now almost all discussion boards, discord servers etc are flush with racists talking sh1t and just being unpleasant for no good reason. in short, right wingers are way more motivated to claim power and it has been proven time and again more successful and enduring than organizing people around an idea. Once the water dries up, there'll be tribal war until someone creates something that can redefine hierarchies and create new leaders. sadly for Musk bhakts, it won't be musk. hehe..
