Anta Assamey
The Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy government seems to be leaving no stone unturned to decimate anybody who is directly or indirectly connected with the TDP in the coming days, so that the opposition party is completely demoralised. In the process, the Jagan government has not left even the judges who had been associated with the TDP in the past and are still favouring it. The fixing of two women in the Amaravati land scam appears to be part of the overall strategy of beating the TDP below the belt. In the FIR filed on Tuesday, the Anti-Corruption Bureau authorities named two women -- Nuthalapati Sri Tanuja and Nuthalapati Sri Bhuvana as beneficiaries of land purchases in and around Amaravati. Along with former advocate general Dammalapati Srinivas and his family members, these two women were also booked charges of corruption, cheating, criminal conspiracy and criminal breach of trust pertaining to the alleged illegal land deals in the proposed state capital region of Amaravati. Though the FIR did not mention who these women are, an unofficial note leaked by the chief minister’s office to the media revealed that they are daughter of Supreme Court judge Justice N V Ramana. It was an open secret that Justice Ramana had earlier worked for the TDP before becoming the high court judge and later getting elevated to the Supreme Court. So, the Jagan government has targeted him in the land scam, though he has no direct links with it. But the question is whether this ACB case would prove Justice Ramana or his daughters as guilty. First of all, it has not been proved that Ramana has bought lands in Amaravati or surroundings. Secondly, both his daughters are married to different families and their purchase of lands have nothing to do with Ramana. Thirdly, even if they had purchased lands in and around Amaravati, the ACB has to prove that purchase of lands in Amaravati is a crime. So, technically, Jagan government might not achieve much success in the case but it will definitely help him gain a political and psychological advantage over the TDP and Chandrababu Naidu!
