500% True.

Yeemi Coding standards raa ayya. Dheenemma Java8 nundi maree torture yekkuvayindhi.

I work for a London based Insurance company that does business in UK/USA/EU and India with thousands of Devs in Bangalore.

I really struggle hard to make them understand the importance of Immutability in Java. Still they write code like:

String name = "Venkat Rao";

and later

name = "Subba Rao"

which is where maximum number of defects occur in Java because they keep on changing the references addresses without deleting the memory allocated to "Venkat Rao" and thus loosing precious JVM memory.

No wonder why India ranked after #30 on Worlds Best Programmers Index.

It doesn't matter buddy.

Did you ever read about blitzkrieg?

Don't let perfection be the enemy of good.

The basic philosophy of desi outsourcing companies is to get all work done by freshers. No coding done after 3 yrs into job(u become some kind of LEAD). No matter how much u pay the company the guy / girl  gets like 30-40 k rs per month. How will you get quality? If you look into captives who do respect senior devs there is quality in there. However, there is a bigger issue of fake exp guys in US desi ctrs. But these have to be controlled by top down approach where quality code dev is forced from top like the company rchild that was mentioned. If you pay peanuts you will get monkeys :) is true in some cases. But mostly is it is the dependent on the company culture as well. I saw somewhere up that thopu programmers are non andhra. I have seen other way around where non andhra people are more fekus and get into top mgmt exec positions only. So both ways are possibility. Do not start a regional divide on this. One thing I agree is about the passion part. Current generation seems to miss the passion in coding. They do not go beyond a certain point to solve a problem. Too much spoon feeding expected.

BTW the irony is, I worked with an NG guy who called himself an architect and was a complete idiot on coding side. He was very political and got away as he k**ed a** of an exec. So funny :) that an NG guys quote started this taadu

You are right. I do not still understand why our Desis think (especially Andhra) that programming is a low-level job when majority of the project life cycle is spent on Development stage. Its a single culminating point for all the stages like Design, Analysis, Refinement, Testing and production.

I am not into regional divide as the whole country of 1.3 Bn people is a failure w.r.t Progammers Index. Some Northies are better in coding, I agree on your point.

This is starkingly visible in the case of Telugus as majority of them go to Testing, Tools, Maintenance, Support etc.

There were discussions on Covid threat for jobs in the UK and the title was "If your job can be done from anywhere in the UK, due to WFH, it will be done by anywhere in the World vis-a-vis  India, China, Vietnam etc"

I was shocked to see the responses from Top IT managers about India. All of them have a single view point that India can never be a threat to Software jobs in the UK. Some views are like this:

1. I have outsourced a 10-Devs project to India and we ended up with recruiting 10 Devs in the UK to fix the bugs.

2.  Its getting more expensive to outsource to India as the expenses in India are also rising and we increasingly are getting poor code from them by paying more and more.

3. I clearly mentioned that I wanted Devs who can speak English (referring to his Chennai operations).

4. I hired a translator for 4 Southern languages in India to English.

But how does Google recruit such filth? Something fishy.

But anyways, China is Light years ahead of India on every metric you can assume.

I want to help you mate but not finding a way to explain the things. I will surely let you know, bit busy today.

But meanwhile try to Google about Immutable Programming and that gives an idea.

1. Neenu chebuthundhi yeemante, we do not get what you want even if we pay 25$ per hour or £800 per day in case of Desi Devs. Pay does not make them any better.

2. Satya Nadella or Pichai did not get to the top just because they are only achievers in those companies, they were chosen because Indians have 'Yes Sir, okay sir' attitude and that suites the investors on those companies better.

3. If its just 1 or 2% then how can even a lesser known or least populated countries like Slovenia, Slovakia, Switzerland and eve Russia (much lesser populace than India) produce so many high quality free lancers, product developers, open source contributors.

My most favourite programming language being Scala, was designed by one German Mathematician Professor.

Get off your high horse mate. Edo nuvvu puttina tarvatha programming puttinattu matladutunnav. Few bad apples don’t make the whole basket bad.
Some humility will go a long way.

Thats why I put every evidence I have. Please see the comments from IT managers I pasted above. So every IT manager in the UK is riding high horse?

Its like Paki muslims askind a question "Why do people hate us muslims in UK and Europe?" How do you explain them why everyone hates them when there are billion reasons. You will find it hard to explain, don't you?
