I like idli but never made them at home until recently. My husband succeeded in making idlis after three failed attempts. He used idli rice instead of basmati rice for making the batter, along with minappapu and atukulu.

From recipe, he made batter in roll and then baked them. The first two times, it didn't rise because he used toor dal and basmati rice first time, second time he used minapappu and basmati rice. Third time he used minapappu and idli rice and it worked.
