pros: good for boring people, as too many hangouts, potluck nights, get togethers, group walks, in potluck you take one dish and get to enjoy or taste 10 diff dishes. All together its like a desi party.. 

If kids, good for them, as they can hangout with other desi kids and play indoor games in winter and outdoor in summers. 

Parents can enjoy a bit when they visit you, by looking at the desi crowd here. They feel wow we have desis here which is nice for them. 

You get to know latest news in Andhra Telangana and India, you get to know some other desi info or deals in walmart or sams club or costco, like kitchen groceries deals, whatever al that crap...

If you like kids, you will have fun with many kids at gatherings or potluck nights...

Cons: too much curious to know your stories, they try to show that they're smart than you, they try to show they are from upscale or class, politics within groups, too much bothering, 

You will be judged by your actions, lot of free advices, 

These are some of my observations, and i hate desi sh!t....

Interesting, I never lived in a desi community so I am curious to know. How open are Desis to accept mixed race couples into their groups?

i think good for kids..not for adults.
