He did not do much wrong but neither did Karun Nair...Vaadu 300 kottina next 1-2 matches taruvatha never played again I believe.

Unlike other countries India just have too much competition in batting and guys without backing cannot get many chances like Rohit got before 2013

MEDIA ADVISORY

January 01, 2021

T Natarajan to replace Umesh Yadav in India’s Test squad

Umesh Yadav sustained a strain in his left calf muscle on Day 3 of the second Border-Gavaskar Test in Melbourne. He underwent scans later in the day. The fast bowler will not recover completely ahead of the remaining two Test matches and has been ruled out of the series.

The All-India Senior Selection Committee has named T Natarajan as Yadav’s replacement. Ahead of the Boxing Day Test, Shardul Thakur was added to the Test squad as Mohd. Shami's replacement after the senior fast bowler suffered a hairline fracture in his right forearm. Both Shami and Umesh Yadav will head to the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru for further rehabilitation of their injuries.

Rohit Sharma has completed his quarantine and has now joined the Indian Cricket Team in Melbourne.

Team India Test squad: Ajinkya Rahane (Captain), Rohit Sharma (vice-captain), Mayank Agarwal, Prithvi Shaw, KL Rahul, Cheteshwar Pujara, Hanuma Vihari, Shubman Gill, Wriddhiman Saha (wicket-keeper), Rishabh Pant (wicket-keeper), Jasprit Bumrah, Navdeep Saini, Kuldeep Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, R. AUS vs IND: Team India players facing investigation for potential bio-bubble breach ahead of 3rd Test

A fan who posted a video and pictures of the Indian fans dining inside a restaurant also tweeted that Rishabh Pant "hugged" him.

The members of Team India are facing an investigation over a potential breach of bio-bubble protocols ahead of the third Test against Australia in Sydney. The squad members of the side, which included vice-captain Rohit Sharma, opening batsmen Shubman Gill and Prithvi Shaw, wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant and fast bowler Navdeep Saini dined inside a Melbourne restaurant.

According to the bio-bubble protocols, while the players are allowed to eat at restaurants, they must only be seated outdoors.

According to the Australian newspaper Sydney Morning Herald, the Indian players may now be investigated by the BCCI for a potential breach of protocol.

An India fan, Navaldeep Singh, took to Twitter to share the videos and pictures of the Indian players dining inside 'Secret Kitchen', a restaurant in Melbourne. He also claimed to have paid a $118.69 bill.

In a tweet, the fan also wrote that Rishabh Pant "hugged" him.

"When they got know that i have paid the bill.. Rohit sharma said bhaji pese lelo yaar acha nai lagta.. i said no sir its on me. Pant hugged me and said photo tabhi hogi jab pese loge wapis. I said no bro not happening. Finally sabane photo khichwai :) mja aa gya yaar #blessed," he wrote.

Cricket Australia on Tuesday had decided to retain Sydney as the venue for the third Test against India, ending speculation that the game could move to Melbourne because of stringent COVID-19 border restrictions that would have affected the players' movement for the fourth match in Brisbane.

The third Test is to be held from January 7.

The series is currently locked 1-1 after India won the second Test in Melbourne, which was placed on standby in the wake of the COVID-19 outbreak in Sydney's northern beaches before Christmas.

India vs Australia: No bio-bubble breach by Rishabh Pant as Indian fan rubbishes Australian media reports

Reports in the Australian media were based on what an Indian cricket fan in Melbourne, who happened to be in the same restaurant as the cricketers, had shared on social media. The fan has now rubbished what the Australian media had reported on the alleged breach.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Five members of the Indian Test squad had visited a restaurant in Melbourne on New Year’s Day
  • An Indian fan had shared images on social media of the five players sitting indoors at the restaurant
  • However, there were no indications of a breach of bio-security protocols in any of the photos shared

On Saturday, some media reports in Australia tried to link the visit by some players of the Indian Test squad that include Rohit Sharma, Rishabh Pant, Shubman Gill, Navdeep Saini and Prithvi Shaw to a restaurant in Melbourne with a possible breach of Cricket Australia’s biosecurity protocols.

The reports were based on what an Indian cricket fan in Melbourne, Navaldeep Singh, who happened to be at the same restaurant, had shared on social media.

Singh, posted a video on social media of the cricketers sitting on a table behind him at the restaurant and claimed that he had cleared their $118.69 bill.

He had also written of a brief interaction with the players when they found out that their bill had been paid, and claimed at the time that Rishabh Pant had “hugged” him.

This sent the Australian media into a tizzy and they tried to overplay the incident and falsely claimed that the cricket boards of the two countries were looking into the matter and an investigation had been ordered. However, no such investigation has been ordered by the Indian cricket board.

But later in the day, the Indian fan posted a clarification on Twitter, and rubbished such reports.

“Clarification - Pant never hugged me it was all said in excitement we maintained social distance all thru:) Apologies for miscommunication @BCCI @CricketAus @dailytelegraph,” the Indian fan posted on Twitter.

Cricket Australia’s strict bio-security guidelines permit the players to eat out at restaurants, but they must be seated in an outdoor area.

There were no indications of a breach of bio-security protocols in any of the photos shared by the Indian fan, and the Australian media reports are probably just mind games that the media from Down Under are accustomed to playing during such high-profile tours.

With a rise in the Covid-19 cases in some states of Australia, the situation is said to be very dynamic, with the occurrence of lockdown possible in some areas.

However, the third Test between Australia and India, scheduled to begin on Thursday, will go ahead at the Sydney Cricket Ground with attendance at 50 per cent capacity.

BCCI says no breach of COVID-19 protocols, rubbishes Australian media reports

A senior Indian cricket board official told PTI that the visiting contingent is “well aware” of the COVID-19 protocols and had not violated any of them.

The BCCI on Saturday rubbished reports that it was investigating a violation of COVID-19 protocols by some Indian cricketers who ate out at a restaurant here, terming them “a malicious spin by a section of Australian media”.

A senior Indian cricket board official told PTI that the visiting contingent is “well aware” of the COVID-19 protocols and had not violated any of them.

“No, there has been no breach in bio-security protocols. Everyone associated with the Indian team is well aware of the protocols,” the official said on conditions of anonymity.

It all started after a fan, identified as Navaldeep Singh, tweeted pictures and videos of cricketers Rohit Sharma, Rishabh Pant, Navdeep Saini and Shubman Gill having a meal at a restaurant. The fan, who claimed that he was seated close to the players at the restaurant, later apologised for creating confusion by claiming that he had been hugged by Pant after he paid for the players’ meal.

As per protocols, players are allowed to eat out provided they take necessary precautions.

“We can only term it as a malicious spin by a section of Australian media and this has started after their humiliating defeat,” he added.

The ‘Sydney Morning Herald’, in a report that was not backed up by any statements from either the BCCI, Cricket Australia or the Indian team management, reported that the restaurant visit was a breach of bio-bubble protocol.

“The Australian media at times acts as an extension of their cricket team,” the BCCI official said.

The bio-security bubbles have been put in place to ensure the players are not affected by the pandemic that has gripped the world for months now, with parts of Australia reporting fresh outbreaks in recent times.

This had also put the future of the third Test in Sydney in doubt before CA clarified that it would not be shifted to Melbourne.

India crushed Australia by eight wickets in the second Test in Melbourne, making an incredible comeback days after the debacle in the four-match series opener in Adelaide. The match will begin on January 7 and the two teams will arrive in Sydney a couple of days before the scheduled start.
