It depends on how indispensable you are... if you want to stay put.. you can ask for a staggered bonus spread over the next three or four years... I get that ( as part of the retention program without me threatening to leave)..😀

As long as you have good relationships with team and manager not a problem. No manager will give counter offer to put you in next list . If you are comfortable with team you can accept it .

That statement is a wrong one on many levels. No company is dependent on one single person/entity.

personal experience do not do that.. Promotions will be tough and once your need is over you will be fired...
