I am also on same boat with H1B maxing out in 4 days...my employer is about to start GC process, so I ended up taking admission in a university for PhD which will start on Jan 4th....

you can move to B2 if possible and then start apply for PhDs...

So if I switch to B2 for Phd , When My perm approve or application is submitted  Can I switch back to H1 or do I need to go through H1 Lottery again ?

Even you max out your H1B and your I140 is approved after max out, you can still extend your H1B beyond 6 years (this is what I heard from my company's attorney)..

I don't know why u waited till 6th year to file GC.

I think labor certification ki more than 1yr wait time untey h1b 1 yr extension vasthundi. It's not possible in ur case.  Same rule for i140 too.

I think u may have to change status to f1.

Experts opinion plz
