No. sometime in 16th century Christians in north europe got fed up with pope and the rascal priests who controlled everything. Even kings was made to listen to the pope and his priests. They were also fed up with how religion was run where you have to pay money to priest in church and he will forgive your sins while pocketing the cash.

So they started a protestant movement and severely took away the power of priests. They asked every follower to read bible for themselves - this massively encourage literacy  in north europe like UK, germany. Calvin made religion simple with introduction of concept of four walls and a prayer and discouraged spending on church decoration - wasteful spending reduced. Latin liturgy was ended and all prayers were conducted in language of worshippers .

Cromwell seized all monasteries, disbanded the priests and merged the property to state. This enriched governments who were able to serve people well.

All this laid the foundation of western civilization as we know it.

Yea they say he started it in germany. Calvin operationalized it. But lot of kings were already upset with pope and people were fed up too.

I read an article which says he was inapiration behind the formation of Nazi party. But it is irrelevant to the discussion.
