So they started a protestant movement and severely took away the power of priests. They asked every follower to read bible for themselves - this massively encourage literacy in north europe like UK, germany. Calvin made religion simple with introduction of concept of four walls and a prayer and discouraged spending on church decoration - wasteful spending reduced. Latin liturgy was ended and all prayers were conducted in language of worshippers . Cromwell seized all monasteries, disbanded the priests and merged the property to state. This enriched governments who were able to serve people well.
