r2d2
The Justice Department is suing Walmart, accusing the retailer of contributing to the prescription opioid crisis by filling thousands of invalid prescriptions and failing to report suspicious orders of opioids. The complaint alleges that Walmart violated the Controlled Substances Act both as an operator of its pharmacies and of its wholesale drug distribution centers. The penalties the government is seeking could total billions of dollars. In its response, Walmart criticized the Justice Department for allegedly "a legal theory that unlawfully forces pharmacists to come between patients and their doctors." The lawsuit is the latest effort by the government to hold companies accountable for the role they may have played in the opioid crisis. Joker_007
what the is this.. without prescription they will not issue the Opioid.. instead of catching the guy who sent the prescription they are chasing Walmart. Walmart do not have mechanism of creating a prescription in their system, case is going to cost the agency...

If Walmart had any suspicion of those prescriptions being wrongly given out and being misused, they had to report it to the DEA. A lot of pharmacists who were worked at Walmart had brought this to the management's notice about they suspecting on possible prescription misuse , but they were hushed and Walmart continued to fill in those prescriptions. Walmart is being accused of ignoring the red flags

The case is centered around that failure

Walmart is working with attorneys to respond to their question soon it will be over...
