This.does.not.happen. stop peddling $hit online. No one becomes a priest like that - very rare. Child of priest is usually a priest or some other brahmin somehwere.

You are telling i am ignorant. IF you give up meat and do sandhya vandhanam you get a brahmin certificate? hahaha - if you do agri you become a reddy? if you clean toilet you become a chamar? 😆. There is a reason you guys talk all this but will never leave us or gulf no matter what. You know you are just lairs and schemers. Nothing you say has any real value - just get by with some arguement or keep some privileges.

To answer this query, we must first understand two things:

  1. What are the pre-requisites of being a Priest?
  2. Who is a Bramhin?

I am consciously deconstructing the question to have a fair understanding of the elements put together and how they are juxtaposed in the query. This is important to arrive at a rational and logical answer without any bias or prejudice.

So,

What are the pre-requisites of being a Priest?

A Priest essentially is someone who has an in-depth understanding of

  • Personal purity and sanctity both of the mind and body and also of intent, speech, and actions.
  • Rituals and their nuances.
  • Relevant mantras, their intonations, meaning, permissible modifications to it, omitances and inclusions.
  • Desh-kaala-aayan-maasa-paksha-graha-nakshatras and other factors effecting the time of the day.
  • Permissible and non-permissible deity specific items to be used based on the prescribed texts.
  • Texts pertaining to the deity and laid down procedure for worship, including but not limited to the Mantra-Tantra-Yantra thus involved.
  • Philosophy of Temples, their sanctity and how to maintain them with timely rituals.
  • Conducting prayers for the presiding deity, conducting prayers on behalf of the visitor devotee, conducting prayers for the overall well being.

These are some of the most important tasks a priest has to perform on any given day. There can be many other aspects and requirements from a priest depending on the kinds of roles assumed as a part and parcel of being a priest.

Who is a Bramhin?

A Bramhin on other hand is someone who consciously involves oneself into the studies of Vedas and Vedangas. These include scriptures, astrology, astronomy, science of phonetics, music, biology, physics, chemistry mathematics, geometry, metallurgy, medicine, and many more. All these topics are usually touched upon during the preliminary studies and depending on the individual’s knack and interest one picks up a stream to specialize in.

From the above it is pretty evident that all of the basics that a priest requires for being a priest are covered by a Bramhin during the studies. So usually someone who has the knowledge and the inclination becomes a priest.

Usually priests are from among the Bramhins because of the knowlwdge they possess. Anyone possessing similar knowledge can execute the duties of a priest and hence can be one.

Hope that answers your query.

Morya!

Is it true that only a Brahmin will be a priest of a temple?

Not necessarily, people of any caste and religion can become a priest in a Temple.

Wanna see

Muslim priests serve at 900-year old Shiva temple

Muslim priests at 900-yr-old Shiva temple in Kashmir - Times of India

A so called conservative state like has enacted one law, which ceases to do away discrimination in temples. It has passed a law allowing people of any/all castes to be temple priests

Non-Brahmins can also be temple priests, says SC

Duty and the Priest: A legal barrier?

However there are few hurdles to it, which shall be soon overcome

'Tamil Nadu govt should not have trained 206 priests' - Times of India

SC backs appointment of priests as per Agamas

Even in ancient South India/ Tamil nadu the local temples, temples for ayyanar’s and amman’s usually had Non-brahmin priests

“Mari Amman ( Godess of Rain) is worshipped in accordance to the local agamas as "Pidari" or the "Grama Devata" usually by non-Brahmin priests or in some cases of big temples like Samayapuram Maariamman temple, also by Brahmin priests.”

Mariamman - Wikipedia

Also we can see in places like Karnatake which has decided to follow the TN role model

Non-Brahmin priests for Karnataks’s state-run temples..

Pandharpur temple has gone ahead, and done away with even gender barrier and is in en-route to appointing priestess

Caste no bar: Women, non-Brahmins will be priests in Pandharpur temple

Bihar also follows the trend

Ancient Bihar temples show the way with non-Brahmin priests

I for one believe that as much as reservation in education/jobs are wrong, the same with respect to profession. Reserving the priests posts only to Brahmin’s is also a type/kind of reservation.

There is nothing wrong in what I said because it's possible for Dalits or any Hindus to join Gurukul, it's also possible for students from other religions to attend Gurukul. You go to Gurukul when you are young, around 11 years old. You are taught both Vedas as well as regular school (not the same kind as in a Government school though). But which parent is willing to send their children to Gurukul at that age?? Brahmin's send their kids to Gurukul because they are in the same profession, but if it's really your thing, you could send your kids. You need to give up on your food habits and trust in the practises before questioning them. Once you understand why a practice is done, then you can question them. There is no point in questioning them without understanding, you only sound ignorant. I only question practises that I understand about, but you're just sounding ignorant in your ramble about Brahmins. If you give up meat and do Sandhya vandhanam, you can be one too (atleast there is a way to attain this).

No one wants even simple corrections in society but just weaponize everything to hate on others. Use temple robbery to blame Jaffas, CM, christians. Use religion to blame muslims. No real thought about anything. Pure hate in every thing. Blindly and boldly lie if you do sandhyavandhanam you become brahmin. If you milk a cow you become a golla ? Most indians and especially upper caste are small minded people. Their culture is destined to die really. And secretely thats what they really want - they themselves want to marry some white or spanic if not i have seen many want their children to marry like that. Settle down in west or uae and in two generations completely get rid of indian culture. Meanwhile just use to spew hate on others.
