If u think there is no scope of recovery, sell them.

two things u need to know.

1) u can only claim 3k per year in trading losses. Migithavi next yr carry over

2) if u sell a stock and buy it again with in 30 days for more price then it falls under washsale and wont be added in losses while tax filing.

@Vaampire Bro , I didn’t get your 2nd point and first time I am hearing. Till now my understanding is that for that year what is the total loss across all buy/sell and claim 3k and transfer remaining to next year .. can you help me understand 2nd point with example

Assume u bought 5 apple stocks at 200 = 1000.

u sold them at $180 on jan 1st= 900. So now u have a loss of $100.  If u buy apple stock agan for more than $180 before feb1st, u can claim $100 loss.

google washsale

@Vaampire I lost close to $10k. So can I claim this loss on tax filings for 21? I am new to investing. I used Robin hood account.

U can claim only 3k per year.

Loss undhi Ani ammadaniki

Net gain or loss ki ndhi thedaa

suppose

apple and amc stocks unnai anuko ne deggara

after u sell them both on apple you make 5k profit and on Amc lo u lost lets say 4k

then ur net gainloss is 1k,  1k ki tax kattali

4k loss undi ani chupinchalevu

second scenario apple lo 2 k profit and amc lo 5k loss anuko, then ur net is 3k loss which u can claim

3k kanna ala ekkuva net loss unte u can carry it over to next year
