This year I dont have to sell anything to book losses. Even if I have to sell something, it wont be so bad. Had to do a fire sale last year.

Do we have to sell loss making stocks before Dec31? I heard we shouldn't buy same stock for some specified time or else will loose tax benefits....

Correct. You have to sell before Dec 31st and then don't buy it again until Feb 1st or so.
