Game Over For Theatres?

The way digital entertainment is picking up, it appears to be game over for theatres. Though cine folks are trumpeting about theatrical experience, the income from digital is luring them.

In the beginning, the agreement was to release in OTT after few weeks of theatrical release but now it has come to days.

Also, all those films who are skeptical about audience acceptance, films that go through major difficulties to get a theatrical release, films that think the process for releasing in theatres is cumbersome; they are heading to OTTs directly.

During Corona time, people got used to OTTs. Many thought the days for theatres is over but once theatres opened they thought OTTs will have a tough time.

But OTTs found a new way to survive. They are offering a premium to grab movies and release them on their platform at the earliest.

In less than 4 weeks, big movies like ‘Krack’ and ‘Master’ are coming on OTT. This is leading to the danger of people waiting for the OTT release instead of going to theatres.

Also, more than content, they are interested to come to theatres only if there is star power, buzz and hungama.

Usually, movies releasing during festivals used to have solid collections irrespective of the talk. But the result of ‘Bangaru Bullodu’ changes opinion. It puts the run of small and medium budget flicks in theatres in question.

Meanwhile, many releases are in line for summer. By that time, even the theatres situation will be streamlined. But all this is giving boost to the makers as multiple avenues of income have risen. They are pumping more money into projects and it is increasing the employment opportunities in Tollywood as well.

Traditional stand alone , huge seating theatres are done for in most places except on outskirts of  big cities .

We will move onto multiplex type theatres moving forward
