Alwar came to Chennai at the age of 15 and started working as lightboy in a studio before he began selling books on the street.

Despite the fact that he was illiterate, Alwar knew all his books and and authors. His love for books not only made him popular among the readers, even some of the most famous literary figures in South India who used to visit him at his shop

I think it would make him uneducated not illiterate. Anyways RIP

Alwar, passed away on Friday at the age of 95 due to age-related ailments. he has been bed-ridden for nearly five years and the shop was run by his family.
