Mysore Narasimhachar Srinivas (1916–1999) was an Indian sociologist and social anthropologist who won lot of recognition for his work on caste in india. His most celebrated theory is Sanskritization aka Brahminization. It basically means in hindu society whenever a caste develops or improves influence it tries to imitiate brahmin caste - it tries to become more exclusive, invents sanskritic myths giving them divine origin (or kshatriya status), starts putting lot of emphasis on genes etc. N
