Philosophy (from Greek: φιλοσοφία, philosophia, 'love of wisdom'[1][2][3]) is the study of general and fundamental questions, such as those about reason, existence, knowledge, values, mind, and language.[4][5] Such questions are often posed as problems[6][7] to be studied or resolved.

Main Branches of Philosophy

  • Metaphysics - ("What is there?", "What is it like?")
  • Epistemology - ("What do we know?", "What does it mean to say that we know something?", "What makes justified beliefs justified?", and "How do we know that we know?")
  • Ethics - (questions of human morality by defining concepts such as good and evil, right and wrong, virtue and vice, justice and crime)
  • Logic - (mostly mathematics...)
  • Aesthetics - (philosophy of art, beauty and taste..etc)

Metaphysics

Ontology:  (the study of what there is or what exists)

Ontology is the branch of philosophy that studies concepts such as existence, being, becoming, and reality

it is generally categorized under the metaphysics.

it deals with...

  • does god exists?
  • do moral values exists?
  • do possibilities exists?
  • do physical objects exists?

Modern times lo - the best

The Conspiracy against the Human Race - Thomas Ligotti

Better Never To Have Been - David Benatar

Alex O'connor podcasts - He is young chap running channel in the name of CosmicSkeptic. He is vegan. I was blown away by his in-depth analysis. He will be definitely recoginized as world's best philosopher in modern times. In my opinion, he is  Newton/Einstein of philosophy.

Old timers -

Listen to Stepehen West who hosts Philosophize this on spotify

The concise manner in which he distills complex philosophical thoughts is quite insightful. I love listening to philosophy poscasts when I run.
