'Conspiracy by BJP': TMC's Memorandum to EC Seeks Probe into 'Attack' on Mamata Banerjee |

New Delhi: A six-member delegation of Trinamool Congress (TMC) called on Election Commission of India (ECI) officials in New Delhi on Friday, impressing upon them that the “attack” on West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee was a “deep-rooted conspiracy by the BJP” and requested for an “unbiased probe” into the matter.

The TMC delegation, comprised of Derek O’Brien, Saugata Roy, Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, Satabdi Roy, Pratima and Santanu Sen, met the full ECI team, including the chief election commissioner (CEC) Sunil Arora, for over an hour and submitted a memorandum.

The TMC leaders described the “attack” on their leader as a pre-meditated plan for Banerjee’s life and brought to the fore certain chain of events that, they said, would corroborate their version that the “attack” was in the making for sometime before it took place on March 10, hours after she filed her nomination in Nandigram.

They also dismissed the accounts of eyewitnesses and called them as being “planted” by BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari, whom she will face off in Nandigram in the upcoming elections.

“Injuries to Mamata Banerjee in Nandigram were not a result of an unfortunate incident but that of a conspiracy. The events leading up to the attempt on her life leave no doubt that the attack was part of a deep-rooted conspiracy,” TMC MP Saugata Roy told reporters after meeting the ECI.

Describing the chain of events, which they claim had led to the “attack” on Banerjee, the memorandum pointed out that West Bengal BJP chief, Dilip Ghosh, had posted a caricature of Banerjee on March 8 on Facebook and had written that she will be “hit” when she visited Nandigram.

The memorandum also pointed out the attack had taken place just a day after the top officials of West Bengal Police were removed in an “abrupt decision” by the ECI without consulting the state government.

“Around the same time, numerous complaints were filed by the BJP with the Election Commission of India seeking immediate removal of the erstwhile Director General and IGP of West Bengal and almost immediately and unilaterally, on March 9, 2021, in an abrupt decision, without consultation with the state Government, the ECl removed the erstwhile DGP,” the Indian Express quoted from the memorandum added.

The TMC leaders in their memorandum to the ECI further added that BJP MP Saumitra Khan, on March 9, had written to Babul Supriyo on Twitter that “you will come to know tomorrow after 5 pm”.

“It clearly indicates that something grave was planned and was in the offing beyond at Nandigram on March 10, 2021,” the leaders wrote in their letter to ECI.

The delegation in their memorandum also pinned the blame on the local police. It said the local SP and police were “suspiciously absent when an attempt was made on the life of Mamata Banerjee”.

Dismissing the eyewitnesses as being associates of Adhikari, the TMC leaders in their memorandum said they were “planted” and refuted their account.

“When an attempt was made on the life of Ms. Banerjee, in which she was grievously hurt, to cover up the attack, eye-witnesses were planted, illustratively, eye-witnesses Chittaranjan Das and Debabrata Das, who testified that Ms Banerjee’s car was hit against an iron pillar, are associates of Suvendu Adhikari, BJP candidate from Nandigram,” the memorandum stated.

Stating that the chain of events clearly showed a “nexus between the post by Dilip Ghosh on Facebook, the unilateral decision of the ECI to remove the erstwhile DGP, the plan revealed by Saumitra Khan on Twitter, resultant attempt on the life of Mamata Banerjee and the cover up of the same by Adhikari”, the TMC leaders demanded a thorough and unbiased investigation into the matter.

Soon after the TMC leader sustained injuries on March 10, a political slugfest emerged with TMC leaders pointing fingers at the BJP while the BJP called it a “scripted drama”.

The West Bengal assembly elections this time around have become a high-stakes battle for the BJP, as it aims to dislodge TMC from power and install its government.

It was an accident

It was neither an attack by Bjp or a drama by Prasanth Kishor

Basically a failure of her personal convoy , moving through narrow crowded streets and not ensuring the door is suddenly closed
