Different states have different eligibility levels, you need to check that.

your best bet is mass vaccination site , if there is one. If not, see if you qualify for pre existing condition - anything will do. Even if are a smoker or diabetes or obese (BMI > 25) etc...

some states have some kind of lists to get a last minute spot..

https://hidrb.com/

not recommended but if you really really need one - you can add a pre existing condition , say a smoker (even if you are not). don't worry, it won't be tied to your insurance ... a friend is going to india for her mothers surgery and did this - he got JnJ vaccine just before going.

Most cases you hear are qualified under their state for many reasons. But for a state like California, do this.

If you cannot wait for longer, call up multiple urgent cares in your viscinity and request your name to be placed on wait list. If there is an opportunity, they will call you. You need to be ready to go within a few minutes to hours. They are practical and willing to work with you. Most people on waitlist hear back sooner than later. Many people cannot make it to the appointment. These people have daily quotas and get paid more if they can cover more. Healthcare workers are also looking to make more money. Vallaki pandaga vachindi. In addition, distribution companies are sending extra than needed to fulfill daily quota just in case some get damaged. Also, pharmaceutical companies overfill vials to account for wastage. Because healthcare workers are more careful than usual, there is a lot of extra vaccine left unused. Vaccine shot takes ~5min when they are allotting 20min slots. So, there is a bunch of extra time on their hand and leftover vaccine. They are calling people at the last moment and giving them to anybody who can make it to their place promptly to a couple hours. And alos bear in mind, they are willing to take any one (such as spouse, parent, kid, et cetera) in your place if not you. Insurance ivanni lite nadustunnayi.. they are in a hurry to give a shot first..
