Six-month pregnant woman allegedly raped at knifepoint in Uttar Pradesh. The incident took place in Paniyara village of the Maharajganj district in Uttar Pradesh.


The police have initiated a probe after receiving a complaint from the survivor. According to a report, the survivor was sleeping at her home on April 5 when a man allegedly scaled the wall and entered the house. The accused put a knife to her throat, threatened to kill her if she raised an alarm, and then raped her.


The survivor stated that she is six months pregnant and the accused is said to be her neighbour. Allegedly the mother-in-law came into the room after hearing the survivor’s cries. The mother-in-law managed to grab a hold of the accused. Local residents gathered at the house after they heard the commotion and called the police. The accused fled from the scene after pushing the mother-in-law.

Superintendent Officer of Paniyara Dilip Singh stated that “We have received a complaint and probing the matter. Strict action will be taken against the accused.”


In the Meerut district, a 22-year-old pregnant woman was allegedly beaten to death by her in-laws for not bringing the dowry. The incident took place in the village Nanglasahu. The accused fled the scene and the village head informed the Bhawanpur police about the murder. According to the late woman’s father, the in-laws used to harass her and demand Rs 5 lakh as dowry. They allegedly beat her to death after not receiving the dowry.

According to the National Crime Records Bureau’s 2019 report, the state of Uttar Pradesh accounts for 14 per cent of the national crimes against women. The 2019 report stated that Uttar Pradesh accounts for 59,853 crimes against women. In 2019, there was a 66.7 per cent increase in registered cases of crimes against women since 2015 in Uttar Pradesh.
