Nithyananda Bans Travellers From India To 'Kailasa', Cites COVID-19 Surge

The announcement made on Twitter states that the travel ban applies to people from Brazil, European Union and Malaysia, as well

 

With the rising COVID-19 cases across the world, it is not unusual to dream of escaping to a remote island. And if 'Kailasa' - the 'nation' that self-styled godman Nithyananda claims to have founded in 2019 - was on your list of places to travel to, we have bad news for you. In a statement, Nithyananda announced that devotees from India would not be allowed to enter his island. In his 'Presidential Mandate', Nithyananda said that it was not just Indians but also travellers from Brazil, European Union and Malaysia who were banned from entering the island. The decision was made in view of the rising COVID-19 cases across the world.

The tweet accompanying the statement read, "KAILASA's #PresidentialMandate Executive order directly from the #SPH for all the embassies of #KAILASA across the globe. #COVID19 #COVIDSecondWaveInIndia #CoronaSecondWave #Nithyananda #Kailaasa #ExecutiveOrder."

In December 2019 Nithyananda declared that he had created a new 'Hindu nation' called Kailaasa and claimed to issue passports, currency and other documents.^[68][69][70] In his announcement he said, "Kailaasa is a nation without borders created by dispossessed Hindus around the world who lost the right to practice Hinduism authentically in their own countries”. Nithyananda claims that Kailasa is the world's only sovereign Hindu nation.^[71]Kailaasa has also been described as a network of non-governmental organizations spanning three continents.^[72][73]

In August 2020, Nithyananda launched the ‘Reserve Bank of Kailaasa’ on Ganesha Chaturthi, and released its official gold currency, ‘Kailashian dollars’.^[69] He said the design of the coins was inspired by the currency of 'the ancient 56 Hindu nations'.^[74]He said that the Bank would be structured on the lines of the Vatican Bank.^{[65][75][76][77][78][79]}

In December 2020, Nithyananda announced that Kailaasa has now begun issuing special three-day visas for tourists.^[80] According to his announcement, visa-holders will have to travel from Australia aboard a newly launched private chartered flight service “Garuda”, and all visitors will be provided with free food and accommodation during the course of their stay.^[80][81]

On 19 April 2021, in a Presidential Mandate, citing COVID-19 cases across the world banned travelers from India, Brazil, European Union and Malaysia to island nation Kailaasa.^[82][83][84]
