Looks like the Indian COVID variant is here in Folsom and Bay area and probably all California.
One person, who is under 30, came back from India in mid-April, and got the Indian variant of the COVID. He is now in ICU. And few others are infected.
It is impacting kids, and most people in 30s/40s. Even those who have taken both vaccine shots.
So, there is a potential for spike in corona cases... especially in Indian community.
Please continue to wear masks and practice social distancing and avoid large indoor gatherings.
A San Ramon resident passed away on Apr 25 due to COVID-19 complications in India. He went to India to see his father. He got vaccinated before leaving (both shots). He got infected in India but tests were negative (apparently the latest strain only shows up on the CT scan) so he was caught unaware. Suddenly his oxygen level dropped to 70  and he had to be taken to the hospital. He was in a critical condition and then he passed away due to liver failure. He was a very healthy person. So looks like the vaccination might not be that effective for this new variant.
Please be careful visiting India even after getting vaccinated. Take care and stay safe. Bay Area take  care yourself and love ones. Double Mask now no wards please when you go out. There were 4 cases in Houston with the Indian variant couple of days ago.  If you have come from India visit, please do home quarantine for 14 days or so. Please be careful and stay safe and healthy !!!!

Situation in India is catastrophic, possibly in part due to the Indian double mutant strain. It's already here, identified in California Michigan, New York,  and Texas. I'm hearing news where people are returning from India, initially testing negative but are developing symptoms a few days later. I'm sure many of these people want to do the right thing, and isolate for the full 14 days - help them do that.  I think Indian Grocery stores are potentially a point of spread, as are any one-on-one interactions with anyone who has recently returned.

Avoid any contact with people who have returned for at least 3 weeks after they come back - be on the safe side and give it the full two weeks.

Offer to do Indian grocery store runs for them and leave the bags in the doorstep, or talk to your local Indian grocery store about offering curbside pickup or door delivery through a phone order.

Be more careful when you go to the Indian grocery store - leave kids at home, and double mask up.

Please share this post in your local groups -I'm not sure how many people have already thought about this, but figured these simple things are worth a mention.

Stay safe everyone!
