Hypocrisy of Indian writers is glaring...

I'm reading a Tamil book published as a serialized novel in the 1950s over 5 yrs, called Ponniyin Selvan written by kalki krishnamoorthy

the amount of effort the author put into describing the Shaivaite and Vaishnavite clash with wit and some interesting multidimensional characters, disappears when it comes to muslims.

muslims in this book are just mindless hoardes invading our pure land, with not a single redeeming feature.

While he spent a lot of time to research on the lifestyles of people who lived at that time, he didn't extend the same courtesy to muslims. didn't even bother to try and understand their worldview and morality of their religion.

I didn't read the book, so I can't comment on the book. But this is my comment as per my understanding to your post. At least as far as I know, in Islam there were no missionaries to spread the word of the GOD like Christianity and Buddhism did. They conquest first and convert the people of the subjugated lands. Of course, Christians were no saints in the past, they used all kinds of methods to convert the people around them and also from the new founds lands (ex: Goa Inquisition). So basically, religion was used by the powerful people, rulers to control people, and gain land, as a political tool. Essence of the religion and GOD was/is only for commoners to keep them under control, It applies to the India as well. Basically, religion for the quest of GOD turned in to quest for Power. Coming back to your point, Muslims nor Christians were never interested in saving the people of sub-continent from going to Hell, they were after the wealth the land possessed.  Same way that lot of people are interested in emigrating to the western or developed countries that have wealth and prosperity. Cause everyone wants a piece of it.
