there are always going to be jokers who take a view on either side depending on the situation

as you said, Rafale case is a perfect example how things can be screwed up for the leaders who take a risk to avoid national security, if Not Modi someone else could have easily cancelled the deal moving india even further behind

If safran won't transfer the technology in any time soon... Our fifth generation fighter acma won't be ready in next two decades..

 

Su57 was supposed to join our fleet by now....but Russia gave us L ..otherwise india would have 5 the gen su57 in our fleet in oar with f35. 

We lost lot of millions 500+ and most importantly  trust with Russian production  

 

Despite the cost..su57 is no match to f35

 India need technology transfer or make duplicate ..or steal like Chinese....

Russia reverse engineered British and German engines from aircraft they captured  after world war 2

Japanese got knowledge transfer from Germans..during world war 2 

 

Chinese followed Russian path to steal..

 

We had our own engine making capacity...but in 1990s after pokhran tests..india was under sanction...we lost state of art wind tunnels ...our engine making got delayed
