Recently I have got a chance to talk to a professor from one of the prestigious management institute, he is a whistle blower too, works on many non profit case studies related to government projects, he told like this act may look good but the actual intention would be for digital surveillance at more depth, as long as it was for law and order and legitimate legal cases that would be fine, but if it is being used for political or personal gains then this would become a weapon in their hands, if the surveillance is the only motive I am not sure what is the use of it, there are many who openly give statements against India and still roam freely, few of them are even political leaders like akbaruddin, what has been done? if no act is following surveillance then I don't think there is a point in doing it, digital space regulation is the need of the hour, Twitter is not above the law, but as long as the govt doesnt gain the confidence of the masses it won't get support over this.

Why is it a common belief in India that the Tech Giants make billions in profit from the Indian market?

2020 Net profits:
Alphabet (Google, Youtube): $80million
FB (FB, Insta, WA): $18millions
Twitter: <$200K

None have their India revenue more than 0.4% of their global revenue! In the end it more for us to lose than the companies. Social networking has done more good than bad, in Covid times it was very helpful for the outreach and awareness.

Facebook India's revenues grew by 43 percent year-on-year to about Rs 1,277.3 crore in 2019-20, while its net profit more than doubled to Rs 135.7 crore.
