There are large number of defence cantonements in urban areas that could be moved to rural areas without any trouble. There is no need of such bases in dense urban areas 

Selling these lands to fund new bases and defence procurement will be good . Just hope they do it in a transparent manner.

Can anyone answer me why is this wrong step? Aside from the corruption/ favoratism aspect ofcourse.

if there's no need for those bases, convert them into research labs or something. transfer them to DRDO... I don't know if its feasible. I don't care about Indian army or what it does with its lands. just saying because you asked what is wrong.

Its wrong because this is not the way to fund any modernization program, when you control the currency.

If atleast the lands were given to state govts, they would've made good use of the public space, with a library or some university or something.

anyway Indian army sucks and is dumb like India. I'm going to enjoy crying by former army guys on social media about this. Its always nice to see army people cry.

I mean central government is not even paying GST compensation which they are legally obliged to , why would they give away expensive land

I agree with you... I was about to comment same when I opened the thread... In a way it will help undeveloped areas when defence cantonments move there.... Its waste holding such costly lands in central cities... I remember there was a proposal to move military base in medhipatnam not sure any progress...
