Btw naxals antey only Maoists kadhu there are many groups too which are active and some of them perished.

grew up with tales of exploits of kishenji from a friend's dad. later read about him in the newspapers. and remember the massive outpouring of support when he was killed.

read a book couple yrs back about Lalgarh, where maoist movement in India reached its peak in 2009, and subsequently went off the rails because the villagers turned on the maoists after Kishenji's death.

I wonder often what is so special about these regions, WestBengal, Chattisgarh, Jharkhand, Orissa, parts of MP, AP, TG, Bihar that motivated villagers to engage in revolutionary war against the Indian state.

may be it was huge adivasi population that still carry the flame of freedom in their minds, while the rest of India either are slave to the state or the corporations tht give them instant comfort.

Hmmm....in tg the movement was started as an opposition to feudal forces( a few castes in particular like reddy, velama and Brahmans ).

It was catalysed by the separate tg movement where state violence was brutal and ultimately pushed the then younger generation into this movement.

The movement was further sustained by the emergency in our country.

The failure of the movement is a big topic and it has many reasons for its failure!

Even though the movt was a failure in the sense that it didn't reach what it was intended to , right from the beginning but it is mighty successful in altering the political landscape of tg and to some extent sociological landscape too .

It can be equated to Dravidian movt in tamilnadu even though not as successful as Dravidian movt , the penetration of radical left ideology into the masses was tremendous and that was not capitalised by the parties is another issue altogether .

In fact the forerunners of separate tg movt since early 1990s were mainly from left leaning individuals and to some extent dalit leaders.Even now in about 20 assembly segments trs has complete support of left and its people thereby surging ahead of it's rivals!! In an assembly of 117 seats, it is no kess a number!

It is true that the globalisation and it's fruits or tentacles, call it as you wish, started enveloping the younger generation , the outrightsupport for the movt is gradually fizzling out and the dumbo leadership of the left in the state isn't helping either!

wasting time instead of reading more about these amazing people in India.

Try to read the book "India mortgaged", wonderful book although from an old context...but it gives you an insight about the level of thought and ideological dedication of yester year leadership!

Dravidian movement was an ethnonationalist movement, that is pivoting to project itself as progressive. Its nowhere near as revolutionary as the TG movement (initial one). Even its leading figurehead Periyar, spoke in two tongues about opposition to state.

I love the tamils, and no serious DMK intellectuals will speak bad about communist movements and run down other regions and have huge respect for them, but lets not compare both. Dravidian movement is milquetoast compared to naxal-maoist movements across India. Tha't's why it was allowed to flourish. Communists in TN regularly spit on DMK and for good reason.

Pls point me to books I can read about TG movement from the start. I want to read about TG movement to start with, and then move to peope's war in Chattisgarh, MP and Maoism in WB.
