No takers for Sharmila party in Telangana?

It has been more than 10 days since Y S Sharmila, daughter of former chief minister of combined Andhra Pradesh Dr Y S Rajasekhar Reddy, launched her new regional party in Telangana in the name of YSR Telangana party (YSRTP).

The initial euphoria witnessed at the time of the launch of the political party with a lot of fanfare appears to be gradually waning, as there has been no attempt of Sharmila announcing her party organisational set-up till date.

The party doesn’t have any ad hoc committees to take up the party programmes, if not the state committee, district committees, constituency-wise and mandal-wise committees of the party which can be established at a later date.

Except the announcement that Sharmila would take out a padayatra from Chevella in the next 100 days, there has been no action plan for the party.

Sharmila, on her party, has been doing field visits in the name of calling on the families of the unemployed youth who had committed suicide due to lack of jobs.

Why has there been no effort to create a party organisation and structure so far?

According to sources close to the YSRTP, Sharmila is worried that not many leaders from other parties are evincing interest in joining her party.

Not a single leader worth his name has come forward to join the YSRTP. Even those who met her in the past like former DGP Swaranjit Sen and expressed interest in working with her have stopped visiting her now.

Except a few leaders like Konda Raghava Reddy and Indira Shobhan Goud, there are no seniors who joined the YSRTP till now.

“Had Sharmila shown interest in fielding a candidate in Huzurabad by-election, some leaders might have joined the party, as it generated some activity in the party. But with Sharmila dropping out of the race, the party no takers now,” an observer said.

It is learnt Sharmila is not very much disturbed but she wants to go slow and steady. She hopes to generate some hype by taking up the padayatra, most likely to start in September.
