They even started to build a new drainage system costing billions of dollars ,sadly works got delayed due to covid .

One year's worth of rain in a short spell 600 mm in a week, same thing happened in Chennai/Nellore  in 2015 . Almost 1200 mm rain in a month

In contrast Hyderabad got flooded by just 100-150 mm rain  last year, who knows what 600 mm can do

Hyderabad had an avg 20 cm rainfall on Oct 13 and some places even had 32cm. The previous highest was 9.8cm recorded on a single day.

The highest rainfall received on Tuesday on the city outskirts was a record 32.3 cm at Singapore Township at Ghatkesar in Medchal Malkajgiri district.

Hayathnagar in Rangareddy district received 29.85 cm rainfall, followed by South Hastinapuram (28.48 cm) and Saroornagar (27.35 cm), both in Rangareddy district.

As many as 35 places in and around Hyderabad received more than 21 cm rain from 8.30 a.m. Tuesday to 5 a.m. on Wednesday.

None of the Indian cities can stand more than 2cms/hour rainfall (Mumbai might be an exception). Hope local governments take this seriously and invest in upgrading the drainage system

Many smaller cities can withstand them easily simply because all natural water bodies are still not occupied .

For example Nellore was relatively unaffected even after getting 1200 mm rain in a month.

That too one week lo 800 mm rain vachindhi aba .

Once the city is flooded any small rain will add to misery.

1200 mm rain in a month will destroy any big city in india except mumbai
