Vijay Karnik was a pilot in Indian Air Force. He is known for his leadership during Indo-Pakistani War of 1971. The Bhuj airstripwas destroyed in the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971, in air strikes in which Pakistani bombers dropped napalm bombs. Bhuj Airport Attack is compared to Attack on Pearl Harbor.[1]The airfield was raided 35 times in 14 days with attacks by 92 bombs and 22 rockets.[2] Karnik re-built Bhuj Airport within 3 days with the help of 300 women from local areas.[3][4][5][6]

Early life and career[edit]

Karnik was born on 6 November 1939 in Nagpur.[7]

Karnik joined Indian Air Force on 26 May 1962.[7]Squadron leader Karnik was promoted to Wing commander rank after the war. 

In film[edit]

Disney+Hotstar's Bhuj: The Pride of India film is based on Vijay Karnik and his work during Indo-Pakistani War of 1971.[8][9]
