Shenzhen was declared as SEZ by 1980 itself. It wasn't until the impending HK handover that buildings sprung in Shenzhen. Until then, it was only a supplier of allied industrial goods to HK which was the manufacturing powerhouse until the 90s. What Chinese govt created in Shenzhen was industrial infrastructure, not a greenfield city. The city rose around the industries much later in the early 2000s.

Was Amaravati declared an SEZ, before the buildings would come up there? Does Amaravati have any history of being a labour intensive industrial town?

Rey Narsi - i never said it was NOT a SEZ. But it is a city literally built ground up. A city needs an anchor - it can start as an SEZ or a state adminstrative capital mandated by the governmeent

Amaravati doesnt need an SEZ as it has the entire AP govt with a budget of $30 BILLION USD as its client. And land was free - donated by farmers.

I dont understand why you and @Ryzen_renoir come in to these threads with amaravati amaravati. You guys know why you hate amaravati. you dont like the caste of the builders. It is your caste culture where you cant stand another caste that makes you hate amaravati. You yourself live in slummy places which the world considers as least livable or most undesirable. You justify that patheticness using urban buzzwords of "sustainability" etc. And you cannot stand if someone builds something really big if you dont like their caste. It is your culture to hate amaravati. Own that culture and stop acting like you got economic reasons or any actual thought behind it.
