POLITICS

Gorakhnath Math, that is hub of politics, has non-Brahmin priests @Telugodura456

He was not one of them.... If he was not PM candidate after moshah, I would definitely stop supporting any hindu cause, bcoz if indi it would only implies one caste theatrics , this goraknath mutt relationship with BJP/RSS was always shaky.... They first started ram janmabhoomi movement RSS jumped in afterwards

Synopsis

The Gorakhnath Math in Gorakhpur, where Yogi Adityanath is mahant or chief priest, traces its origin to the 11th century monk Guru Gorakshnath, a yogi of the Nath Sampradaya.

The Gorakhnath Math in Gorakhpur, where Yogi Adityanath is mahant or chief priest, traces its origin to the 11th century monk Guru Gorakshnath, a yogi of the Nath Sampradaya -a Shaivite tradition within Hinduism. The Naths, in turn, attribute their origin to Dattatreya, the little-known single embodiment of the trinity of Brahma, Vishnu, Mahesh.

Interestingly, Dattatreya and his followers were believed to inhabit the Girnar forest in modern-day Gujarat.Among Dattatreya's disciples was Matsayendranath, the preceptor of Gorakshnath -the latter's revolutionary contribution to his times was simplifying the Upanishadic teachings. He gave the Shabar Mantra -a pledge to Lord Shiva -to the common people, making no distinction of caste or communal identity . In mythological terms, Gorakshnath's following was akin to Lord Shiva's baraat that included every living being.

In time, the Gorakshnath (literally, protector of cow) Shaktipeeth emerged as an egalitarian construct where, to this day , the festival of Makar Sankranti is observed with distribution of khichdi to people of all castes, religions and faiths. It's a centuries-old tradition.
Today's Gorakhnath Math is a religious and political institution that runs two temp les, one in Nepal and the other south of Gorakhpur that's said to contain the samadhi -a yogi's final resting place -of Guru Gorakshnath.

The Math has been a hub of politics for decades. Mahant Digvijay Nath was a Congress member in 1921. He was arrested for “actively participating“ in the Chauri Chaura incident in which protesters clashed with cops.
After Independence, Digvijay was arrested for incendiary speeches against Gandhi before his assassination. He later led the Ram Janmabhoomi movement of 1949.

Scholar Christophe Jaffrelot states that Yogi Adityanath belongs to a specific tradition of Hindutva politics in Uttar Pradesh that can be traced back to the Mahant Digvijay Nath, who led the capture of the Babri Masjid in Ayodhya for Hindus on 22 December 1949.[26][27] Both Digvijay Nath and his successor, Mahant Avaidyanath, belonged to the Hindu Mahasabha and were elected to the Parliament on that party's ticket. After the BJP and the Sangh Parivar joined the Ayodhya movement in the 1980s, the two strands of Hindu nationalism came together. Avaidyanath switched to the BJP in 1991, but nevertheless maintained significant autonomy. Yogi Adityanath was appointed Avaidyanath's successor as the Mahant of Gorakhnath Math in 1994. Four years later, he was elected to the Lower House of the Indian Parliament (the Lok Sabha).[26]

After his first electoral win, Adityanath started his own youth wing Hindu Yuva Vahini, which has been known for their activities in the eastern Uttar Pradesh and was instrumental in Adityanath's meteoric rise[citation needed]. There have been recurrent tensions between Adityanath and the BJP leadership over the allocation of election tickets. However, the BJP has not let the tensions mount because Adityanath has served as a star campaigner for the party.[26][28][29]

In 2006, he took up links between Nepali Maoists and Indian Leftist parties as key campaign issue and encouraged Madhesi leaders to oppose Maoism in Nepal.[12][30] In 2008, his convoy was reportedly attacked while en route to Azamgarh for an anti-terrorism rally. The attack left one person dead and at least six persons injured.[31][32]

Relations with the BJP

Adityanath has had strained relations with the BJP for more than a decade.[35] He often derided and undermined the BJP, criticising its dilution of the Hindutva ideology.[36] Having established his own independent power base in Eastern Uttar Pradesh, with the support of the Hindu Yuva Vahini and the Gorakhnath Math, he felt confident to be able to dictate terms to the BJP. When his voice was not heard, he revolted by fielding candidates against the official BJP candidates. The most prominent example was the fielding of Radha Mohan Das Agarwal from Gorakhpur on a Hindu Mahasabha ticket in 2002, who then defeated BJP Cabinet minister, Shiv Pratap Shukla by a wide margin.[36] In 2007, Adityanath threatened to field 70 candidates for the state assembly against the BJP candidates. But he reached a compromise in the end.[37][38][39] In 2009 Parliamentary elections, Adityanath was rumoured to have campaigned against the BJP candidates who were then defeated.[36]

Despite his periodic revolts, Yogi Adityanath has been kept in good humour by the RSS and the BJP leaders. The deputy prime minister L. K. Advani, the RSS chief Rajendra Singh and the VHP chief Ashok Singhal have visited him in Gorakhpur. During 22–24 December 2006, Adityanath organised a three-day Virat Hindu Mahasammelan at Gorakhpur at the same time as the BJP National Executive Meet in Lucknow. Despite the conflict, several RSS and VHP leaders attended the Mahasammelan, which issued a commitment to pursue the Hindutva goals despite the BJP's claimed "abandonment" of them.[36][40]

In March 2010, Adityanath was one of the several BJP MPs who defied the party whip on the Women's Reservation Bill in the Parliament.[41][42]

In 2018, he campaigned for BJP candidate Pratap Puriji Maharaj for Rajasthan state assembly election.[43]

RSS will drop modi/yogi like a hot potato once their use is done. if modi is defeated in next election RSS will happily disown him. They are in deep contradiction now - OBC/THakurs etc bought them to power and now are asking for more representation in power structures. This is something these RSS people dont like - they will happily share power with elite muslims/whites/ gulf emiratis then OBCs in india - whom they see as animals to be used. But then power is coming only through them.

BJP did something like reservations better than even congress. But it is not something its heart is in.

@NiranjanGaaru in maha - if left to bjp and modi - they would have easily formed the govt with SS after elections - when they had the seats. But RSS refused to compromise on fellow brahmin Fadnavis as CM since they saw maha as their backyard. Modi has to compromise with RSS in some cases and shut them in other cases. In this case he compromised and bjp failed to form govt.

Same in TN - DMK is not some untouchable party for BJP. They were in alliance during vajyapee era. But this same vargam who doesnt have any influence in BJP but  huge influence in RSSs forced BJP and Delhi govt to manipulate AIADMK to keep sasikala out and due to  their hatred for periyar and DMK - nothing else. Ultimately tamils got disgusted and voted in DMK.

So RSS will not hesitate to sabotage even BJP for its caste calcuation.
