The state of Telangana is all set to witness the first gay wedding on its land. This is not only the first gay wedding in Telangana but also in both the Telugu states. Supriyo Chakraborty and his partner Abhay Dang are all set to celebrate their wedding on December 18.

Surpiyo is from Kolkata but he has settled in Hyderabad and works as a hotel management school lecturer. Abhay hails from New Delhi and is working as a software developing manager at an MNC in Hyderabad. Apparently, they met each other on a dating app way back in 2012 and eventually, they started living in a relationship.

The couple got approval from their parents. They will hold just a celebration and not any marriage formalities as same-gender marriages are still not permitted in India.

In an interview with The Hindu, Supriyo hoped that soon the queer marriages will be legalised in India just like the way queer relationships are decriminalized. He added that they will get married as soon as the law is passed.

The 31-year-old stated that their parents were initially sceptical about their relationship but eventually, they have approved. “Being Indian parents, initially they didn’t say yes to our relationship, and at the same time, they did not object. They took a little time and just wanted to be happy in our lives in our own way,” said Supriyo.

“The wedding is just a celebration of togetherness, and for celebration, you don’t need a law,” he further added.
