The San Francisco Bay Area faced a third consecutive day of brazen shoplifting on Sunday when a jewelry store in Hayward was raided by a group of about 40 to 50 hooded teenagers, while others stole an unknown amount of merchandise from a Lululemon store in San Jose. The Hayward thieves, who have not yet been identified, were seen using hammers to shatter the glass cases at Sam's Jewelers at the Southland Mall before running off with their items. Witnesses say they ran into other stores as well and walked out with clothes and shoes. It comes just one day after a group of 80 brazen shoplifters entered a Nordstrom in nearby Walnut Creek, and two days after a Luis Vuitton store in San Francisco's Union Square was ransacked by a group of more than a dozen thieves. Residents and business owners in the are cite a 2014 law that downgraded the theft of property less than $950 in value from a felony charge to a misdemeanor for the rise in thefts, and blame woke District Attorney Chesa Boudin for a rise in crime.
