that's because majority of debt in Texas is taken on by local municipal govts. Texas is beginning to take on more debt. Its inevitable if the state has to grow. and in the future, Texas will institute an income tax too.

Texas debt (state+local) as 16.5% of its gdp and the similar number for California is 15.8%.

all that debt spending, and still Texas is never catching up with California. how sweet is that?

the calculation based on total assets and total liabilities while also calculating deferred iflows and outflows is a stupid way of calculating debt. California is in great fiscal shape, or atleast better than Texas is. Inspite of the welfare spending they do compared to Texas (5 times the amount).

Republicans run states poorly. If the best state Texas is under greater debt than California as a percentage of GDP, my point is made.

Florida's fiscal situation is a lot better, I agree.. but several red states have many local municipalities on the verge of bankruptcy. like Kentucky, West Virginia. etc.. blue states are all doing well.

blue states take on more debt because they have better infrastructure and social support. Red states are governed by morons who think running a balanced budget will spur the economy.

a person with a brain does not need state to support them, such people typically find ways to earn their own prosperity as long as state does not chuck with them taxes

could you explain why people are leaving such states to a state with not so much support like TX

everyone knows socialism failed, capitalism aligns with human greed well, socialism screwed hard working tax paying citizens, why i am explaining this to someone who might be living on social support

could you explain when Texas will catch up to California without imposing california level income taxes? when the oil boom goes, Texas will have no way other than to do the same things blue states do if it wants to grow economically. Its not about democrats/republicans. Its basic economics 101. California went through the same trajectory. Democrat leaning politicians were savvy enough to capture power, while Republicans were busy talking bs about 'balanced budget' and such sh1t.

Will Texas change their labour laws to allow poaching of employees from other firms easily? if no, then forget it. The next big tech wave is not gonna come from Texas. It will come only from California. Not even from Massachusetts. Or may be from Shenzhen (doubtful).

Elon Musk moving to Texas is a joke. he's not that influential the way he is on twitter. So yeah, if you are a smart person with great ideas, you move to California.. Not to Texas. only 3rd rate mouth breathers like @pakeer_saab go to Texas.

Voreyyy. University of Texas at Austin and Texas college station level lo unna schools country lo yekkadiki poyinaaa double the price. If you have two kids double the debt for them.
