Modi denies appointment to TRS delegation

Even as the Telangana Rashtra Samithi leaders and cadres burnt the effigies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi all over the state in protest against the indifferent attitude of the Centre in paddy procurement in the state, the party MPs and minsters were denied an appointment by the Prime Minister.

A delegation of ministers and parliament members of the TRS which landed in New Delhi on Saturday, made desperate attempts to get the appointment of Modi, Union agriculture minister Narendra Singh Tomar and Union civil supplies minister Piyush Goel for the last two days.

However, none of the Central leaders including PM, gave the appointment to the TRS delegation, as the BJP leadership knows that the TRS leaders were only trying to project the Centre in bad light and gain political mileage.

Speaking to reporters at Telangana Bhavan in the afternoon, Telangana agriculture minister S Niranjan Reddy said it was unfortunate that the Centre was refusing to listen to the problems of the people of Telangana by denying them appointment.

Reddy said the Centre had set a target of 60 lakh tonnes of paddy for procurement during the Kharif season, but so far, only 40 lakh tonnes were procured.

He demanded that the Centre give a written assurance to the Telangana government over enhanced targets for paddy procurement during the Kharif.

The TRS rank and file took part in the agitation all over the state on Monday following a call given by chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao.

They staged demonstrations, held dharnas, played “Chavu Dappu” and burnt effigies of the Prime Minister, on the alleged anti-farmer policies of the Centre.

At several places, farmers joined the protest rallies and demanded that the Centre procure paddy from them during the Rabi season as well.
