yeah chennai is conservative, and charan would have succeeded in mumbai where rich can easily socialize their losses and keep their gains.

You make a good point, maybe has a more entrepreneurial bent of mind which SPB didn't have. SPB always identified himself as an artist and was content to be one, Charan has bigger ambitions. 

Hope he succeeds in them some day.

There are not that many alternatives, except him and Mano maybe. Rest of the singers who are having a successful career may not make time to be a judge to this show.

yeah. And the films he produced were almost all good ones. some of them great even. And all of them on shoestring budgets. He was good.

SPB also is a hard act to follow. SPB publicly said that his son doesn't want to be a singer, and has bigger plans for himself. sad that it didn't work out, but he did try to make it work.
