Govt is mixing up two issues here.. so are the media and people….

1. Collecting the tax revenue properly and making sure that the tax gets paid for all the tickets that are sold. Online ticketing will help with this. But I doubt how they will calculate this for counter tickets. Most of the tax revenue is going to TG as the film producers are in TG. Make sure that all the licenses (movie exhibition, fire safety, canteen, etc) are renewed properly every year. Apparently theaters are not paying for these renewals and instead they pay bribes to the revenue officials. 

2. Controlling ticket prices in theaters. I think the govt should stay out of it and set a max price of say 300 or 500 depending on the theater amenities and features (Dolby, ac, etc). I think if they can control the food prices and parking prices in theaters, that would really help the audience. They are way too high because the same thing can be purchased outside for a fraction.
