I think HIT has a different meaning for different people.. for heroes and producers, if the film makes profits (no matter how small), it is a hit… for audience, the movie has to be good to be called a hit.. 

movies make money depending on lot of factors… like the timing (season) of the release , competition at the time of the release, mouth talk, publicity, etc.. 

that way, both DJ, Arya 2 made enough money to recover the investment… Pushpa is a block buster.. just in Hindi, it made 65Cr already… and will collect 75Cr

To add to this Arya 2 is definitely his and sukku's best work so far...
