Why Telugu unity is all bs.

someone asked me what standardized Telugu is. It is the telugu that is imposed on us. Obviously it'll be the Telugu that will have a lot of similarities to the dialects in the region that dominated colonial administration circles.

its the telugu that makes people swell with pride when they watch the language they actually speak in their homes being shown on the screen. hehe.. like in Pushpa. (I wont watch that movie)

conclusion: Telugu is a made up language.

just like all languages. Its an approximation of the many dialects, some of which have strong Tamil, Marathi, Urdu, Kannada flavours, and all of which are either dead or in the process of dying.

people fondly reacting to chittoor accent in a movie, is just like we fondly remembering our visit to the museum of dead people and cultural things. :)

Telugu identity is still cool though. but not as a political idea.

its far sweeter to imagine it as a platform for cultural and informational exchange between people who can still understand each other beyond English.. Than imposing one particular flavour of the language as the standard, and pay lip service to the rest.

Just like Indian unity is bs. India is a made up nation.. there was no India before British.

similarly there was no telugu identity before the british, but various dialects spoken by people from madras to srikakulam were standardized under one language to make it easy for british to rule the region. Just ask any random Andhra person that I met (excluding my relatives who were super sweet to me), about how they made fun of my Telugu.. hehe.. Frankly, I used to laugh at Telugu  my Madras friends spoke, since thought I spoke superior telugu. haha..

so to claim TG as Telugu speaking and should therefore join hands with the other Telugu speaking regions against delhi hegemony is silly. If you don't care about India as a nation, then caring about Telugu nation just makes you a hypocrite or an ignorant moron. Hypocrite because you want to impose your Telugu on TG, while lying through your teeth that you promise to treat it with equal respect and importance. Ignorant moron because, well.

Telugu nation basically kills all surviving dialects that you claim to love. Since no nation would encourage diversity. Look at what KCR is doing to Telangana, promoting certain dialects and customs as the state festival and state lingua franca. that's what happens if you take language seriously beyond a point. @Telugodura456

same applies to TamilNadu too, before you ask. If it is balkanized, its good. I find smug Tamils way more irritating, even though they have better qualities like sticking to social justice platforms.

This is akhand  bharat …

I have always been claiming that the state reorganization based on language was a failed idea.

Perhaps, Pre-1983, there was nothing like Telugu identity. Political movements killed Andhra identity and gave rise to new slogan telugu atma gouravam. A manufactured identity which has fallen apart.

An entire generation was made to believe that they are "telugus". But nothing as such ever existed except in the minds of confused souls who still think they are telugus.

Picha na batch, edo oka manufactured identity and political propaganda kosam "Andhra" ane tag ani teesi pakkaka petti TELUGU ane tag petukunaru. The result is disastrous. Vunnadi poindi, vunchukunnadi poindi.

India kooda manufactured identity ney. daanni mosthunnav ga nuvvu.

Telangana is also a manufactured identity. It was initially a movement by peasants to rise against their feudal lords, but now captured by cultural warriors  (many of them former feudal lords) who want to differentiate themselves with Andhra as their sole identity.

how this any less silly than the Telugu identity?

I am Proud of my Bharatiya identity, Hindu Identity and also for my Telugu identity.

Dont just surrender urself to something more powerful than you….Be Proud and project the good about ur regional background…

most of the american whites still identify themselves as Irish…

typical Hindu UC argument. which is a rehash of the buddhist one.

don't care about the broad directions that things around you move. shut yourself out of everything, and care only about your own self.

how has it worked out for India? lol. you guys never learn, never introspect. and on top of that, give gyan to people who do.

For the record, I do love my Telugu identity. its one of the many identities that I can wear. Its one you also wear @Raven_Raeyes .. you can make fun of Andhra as much as you want.. but you are a Telugu speaking person too :) and I love you.

it gives you access to opportunities, both economic, and cultural, no?

I'm only against promoting notions that there be unity among Telugus. especially political unity. because each people's needs and aspirations are different.

how awesome would it be to have a dozen Telugu areas, than just bringing all of them under one state?

Telangana is a region; Telugu is the language I speak, and I inherited language and region by default. Evadu vachi chepaledu that I speak telugu and I belong to Telangana ani...
