both are not same.. term is for that specific period and you loose the benefits after it expire - where whole life is till you die.  they have certain things where you can be pay for disability etc.. otherwise, e state bro

i have taken from New York life insurance ..Just for 100k ..need to pay only for 10 yrs and applicable to rest of life (100 yrs of age).

But overperiod of time you end up paying more and returns insurance company get over years … they will benefit and in return towards end of your life you get peanuts

You end up paying whole lot premium for whole life insurance policy hence it is not worth it. Whole life insurance policies hybridized with investment option is a BIG NO. 

Term insurance for 20 years  should be reasonable for us.

I have NY life 1.5 million pay out x 20 yrs policy. I pay $89 a month.I took it when i am 35 and i am 37 now. If you are below 30 your premium will be definitely lower.
