Your question is very open and the correct answer for you depends on who you will compare with after coming back to India.

My own opinion is that I can’t reach rich class and can realistically aim for upper middle class - investment returns generating 1lk per month after tax and a 2 lk per month after tax salary. Should also have 2-3 paid off houses/apartments and cars.

Anything less, and I might feel sad later in life for not earning enough in my prime in the US.

Maa Friend had below  - 

1 C fixed deposit for each kid

1 own villa, 2 rental apartments, and 1 commercial complex and one rental house , total - 3 L rents. (All paid off)

2 C interest rotating

wife - 2 L in land

friend - 3 L in hand 

Legacy - agriculture lands 10 acres each dad side and in law side in Shad nagar area.

but he still stayed back in US, renting 2 bed 2 bath Apt using Walmart comforters and mattress on box.

One of friends brother's friend also moved to India and he is unable to survive in Hyderabad, seriously!!

Here their financials below:

• 1 commercial complex in kpbh with 15 shutters generating 4.5 lakhs per month rental income
• Investment portfolio worth 5 Cr
• his salary 4 lakhs in hand
• wife salary 3.8 lakhs in hand
• 5 acres land in kokapet (ancestral)(worth 100 Cr)

they're struggling to survive in Hyderabad/India with just having the above and nothing else, struggling to pay for maid(s), school fee and other bills, they are thinking to return back to US for survival.

Its better your friends stayed back in US, renting 2 bed 2 bath Apt using Walmart comforters and mattress on box.

Ask your friend’s brother friend to move back to USA. There are good jobs now. Easily 6k in hand. Can rent 1 bed to begin with.

Lol, you will not even get proper beds in govt hospitals in India. Private hospitals will charge you 30-50 thousand Rs a day. Kitna paisa pheke ga? You think your kids will allow you to phek paisa at hospitals? They will take you to hospitals may be twice and after that they will leave you to die.
