There is a tribe in AP( comes under chenchu) which do a similar with ox/wild boar ( this is in 2019 and comes under TG). Their belief is that it makes the women fertile and wonder she really got a kid recently

Eventually greed takes place and this was mis-used.. now karma follows and so called Priests are eating the karma of their ancestors

There is nothing written specific in vedas that a brahmin should not eat Non-veg. It is written that specific diet needs to be followed for specific occasions. When you are in ashram, you need to eat satvik food to be peaceful and while doing yaga's you eat anything that is the outcome as it is prasad( it can be beef /horsemeat /chicken/goat) any thing
