demo is not foolish by any means, the real truth can only be understood by those who knows about failing indias banking system at that time, yes the implementation could have been done better

remember it was done a day before US election results, there is some level of significance that i am not aware too, i can only imagine govt realized they cannot delay it anymore it there was any financial turmoil after US elections, banks are very fragile, all it takes is everyone asking for their deposits back can collapse in a day, i think demo was done to liquidate the financial system + some additional benefits of increasing digital transactions, there could be an aspect for large enough fake money/compromised templates that may have resulted this, any one with brain should think that how can govt come out and openly say their currency templates are compromised and P is pumping left and right, just imagine this situation, there were some news about compromised templates during chor chiddus rule, but those F hushed it up
