I can give you good examples. Look at Maruti Suzuki Ltd. One of the better managed companies and Maruti Udyog Limited being a Govt undertaking, Still it is managed better and makes money. 

Do you know the reason? It's the Suzuki that has been running the show and Govt sold its majority stake to Suzuki in early 2000's. Aroju Suzuki ki majority stake ammakapothe, ivala Hyundai to compete kadu kada market share less than 10% vuntunde...

Govt's cannot run PSU's like private companies. That's it.

PSU banks are not closed, they are merged with another reasonably profitable PSU bank

private bank dont lend leniently by managing the risks in time, PSU banks lend loans by political interference like it happened during barmaid rule resulting in choksi, mallya types, they had to run fearing BJP., they would have enjoyed in UPA govt coz the share went to barmaid

if oen is given a task to manage public money vs manage their own money..it is obvious that you will manage your hard earned money better than public money.. same with entities.. PSU's were created duo to 5 yr plans of self sustainability due to our non alignment with innovative west, we copied the USSR styled way of creating jobs, Russia itself has moved away from such framework, we still have remnants of those socialist era

none of those who work at PSU take their work seriously due to management having no direction, they simply go to work for timein--tea--lunch--nap-socializing-politics talk-snack--timeout
