the girl's statement was included in the FIR in front of the magistrate, in hospital, while she was undergoing treatment.

In the statement the girl blamed the warden for burdening her with accounting job, and that she wasn't allowed to go home for christmas, and that warden shouted at her when there were things missing in the office.

based on this, the warden was arrested. The girl didn't say anything about conversion, nor did their parents at this point.

TN police came to know about the 'conversion' angle only after the video surfaced, and they opened an investigation on it too much later. Their findings are that the charge of torturing her coz of conversion didn't bear up, since none of the other girls in the school had any experience that was similar to hers.

further investigation opened up the stepmom angle, at which point the case was promptly transferred to the CBI, since BJP's TN president Annamalai would likely end up in jail if TN police handled the case from here. For his role in this fiasco.
