what was the reason NDA losing on 2004;antha progressive development vunde.

if you remember it was NDA govt who built most of the highways which congress couldn't in 60 yrs they did in just one term

Highways are not something people care while voting and highways definitely improve the economy but that realization will take years for people to realize it, India was also hit with sanctions and money was still a problem back then, 2004 - 2009 was the best phase in terms of economic development and that’s why Congress came back to power in 2009, after 2009 congress was stuck in scam after another. in 2014, BJP has a new face and a strong leader and at the same time congress had an inexperienced leader

If you look back, BJP was behind INC by only 7 seats. Where they lost was in forming the alliance. AP played an important role contributing 29 seats. NDA dillydallied with AIDMK in Tamilnadu which cost them.

The biggest surprise in 2004 was for the communists. 59 seats. They along with Samajwadi and BSP ruled out anyone from forming a more stronger alliance. Given that all of them had an ideological difference with BJP, Congress was the only option without whom a government could not be formed. On the other hand BJP had prepoll alliances with AIADMK, TDP and others that lost badly.

2009 saw BJP without the right leader and INC with a good PM candidate in MMS, BJP lost badly. That is one of the reasons why LKA was not made the PM candidate in 2014. Even when everyone was expecting them to fight the elections with a face for the PM, they went ahead with Modi as their PM candidate. He was polarizing enough and had the charm of an untested car.

Having learned their lesson, NDA from 2014 is trying to reach the majority mark independently. What NDA lacked in 2004 was someone who could build a strategic alliance. They still lack that. They are now overcoming that with brute force. NDA is now ensuring everything to not return back to their 2004 days. Opposition is also helping them by offering no viable alternative. They keep singing the same old tune saying that BJP is polarizing and BJP is communal without realizing that they are actually playing into BJP's hands.

Every time you fight an election on communal polarization, you are actually consolidating BJP's vote bank. Even moderates that would generally not vote for BJP are not being aligned to a narrative. What opposition needs in my opinion is a saleable face that can easily consolidate anti BJP vote patterns. Unfortunately, KCR / Nitish / Sharad P/ Mamta or CBN are not that face. The less spoken about the Gandhi's the better. Until such a time TINA wins.
