Opinion: Why Amaravathi Verdict Puts TDP In Trouble?

TDP and its media have been living in the delusion of Amaravathi for many years. They are assuming that the High Court's new judgement is their victory against Jagan Mohan Reddy's government.

TDP's Amaravathi dreams are as old as bifurcation of the state. After enthroning the CM's chair in 2014, Chandrababu Naidu brought Amaravathi into picture ruling out the other probable places like Donakonda of Prakasam district which have more barren lands in the name of Government. Had that place been opted, the burden of buying the fertile lands from the farmers would have been avoided.

CBN moved his agenda and started land pooling by doing agreements with the farmers. Though YCP also gave its consent, being in the opposition party for Amavarathi as the capital, eventually it came to know that it is not practically possible to build a new capital considering the treasury and inflows of the state.

So, after Jagan Mohan Reddy came into power in 2019, he wanted to decentralize the capital zone into three for two different reasons. One, is to cut down the costs of building a new capital by using the already urbanized Vizag as the executive capital. Two, to give equal importance to Rayalaseema region by making Kurnool as the judicial capital of the state.

With this announcement, the people of Vizag and Kurnool were happy as that would increase their land prices and also result in overall development.

But the TDP people, their media and some farmers who wanted to reap the real estate benefits at Amaravathi became unhappy. They started the protest and wanted to give the color that the entire state is crying for Amaravathi.

Surprisingly the results of the local elections in Amaravati-Guntur region gave a landslide victory to YCP proving that the sentiment of Amaravathi among the people was just a delusion but not real. It also became evident that Amaravathi is a need of TDP, its media and some farmers in that region but none else bothered about it.

If this is the case, then why do TDP people distribute sweets with the High Court's new judgement against the three-capital scenario? They have only one reason to celebrate. That is, they got some support in the form of HC judgement to spread the one-capital perception and sell off their properties at higher prices to third parties. Other than that they can reap nothing politically.

In the first place, how can Jagan Mohan Reddy implement the High Court's judgement considering the funds in hand? Should the government follow the judgement of the Honorable High Court and stop giving welfare schemes and build the capital on priority basis? Can it be possible to build the capital even by doing so? These questions are in circulation among the people.

On the other hand, now the people of Vizag and Kurnool are angry with Chandrababu Naidu for hindering the development of their places by objecting to the three-capital proposal. The coming elections may see the funeral of TDP in those places. Moreover, it is still a doubt if the Amaravathi people vote in favor of TDP as they have shown their bitter face in the Panchayat elections by giving victory to YCP.

The bottom line is that the TDP and its media are celebrating their failure as a festival in delusion.
