Nah..not completely. In India’s case it’s complicated.

You cannot say it’s govt’s failure or policy failure.

Iran’s sanctions are due to its nuclear program and presently India has nuclear fuel group waiver to continue trade with half dozen countries to buy nuclear fuel. The same NSG members have supported sanctions on Iran and India being a beneficiary state of NSG waiver had to succumb to such sanctions.

India buys only 2-3% of its energy needs from Russia

The distance is too long ,  our refineries are not configured to  work with russian crude

No international shipping agency wants to touch russian crude  and most importantly no one wants to insure russian crude transport

Any Russian oil trade will take a long time to come to fruition , aside from few Ural crude shipments in open tenders

Wrong , it's 100% Modi's policy

You have ask yourself why did modi win the highest civilian awards from UAE and Saudi Arabia and their sudden silence on Kashmir and stopped funding Pak

It's not like Iran did not want to stop buying indian food or pharmaceuticals

It's a calculated move to score diplomatic victory over Pakistan at the cost of economy

These sanctions are not primarily US sanctions but US driven sanctions who want to isolate Iran and make them agree for a civilian nuclear deal.

Many countries along with India, stopped buying fuel from Iran. Even after sanctions were put in place, we did buy oil for quite some time before we stopped importing. Among lot of things that we trade with Iran, Fuel was the one which is put up under the sanctions.

Diplomatic victory over Pakistan, may be one of the reasons but not the sole reason. International trade and sanctions are a series of actions, not a single reason.

No

Scoring diplomatic victories over a dead snake like Pakistan is waste , growing economy by buying cheap crude is always better
